1000 Miles, based on the 1860 public domain memoir Running a Thousand Miles for Freedom, is the true and daring escape from slavery by the married couple Ellen and William Craft in 1848. So their unborn children will not be born as slaves, Ellen impersonates a white male and pretends to be William’s master as they travel 1000 miles by public transit (ship, rail, and carriage) trying to gain their freedom in Boston.
